President's Corner, Spring 2000

Thank you to Bill Malloy, our immediate past president who served us so well during the last two years.  We appreciate all that he accomplished.

As I begin this term as president there continue to be many issues which face our neighborhood and require our attention. One of the most pressing issues is the future of  our Forest Park Middle School.  This is an important topic for all of us, it impacts all of our lives as the children and teachers go about the educational process in our neighborhood.  Watch for announcements of meetings, attend, and make sure to let the School Committee and City Council know how you feel.

Other issues facing us include our need for continuing cooperation with The X Main Street Corporation as they continue to work on revitalizing the "X" and surrounding areas. We want to continue the dialogue with the Park Department to insure that all of our concerns are heard and responded to in a cooperative manner.  We continue our neighborhood cleanups to rid our neighborhood of graffiti and trash to show that we are proud of where we live.  We have on-going zoning issues including the still unresolved Crystal Avenue/Belmont Laundry zone appeal, and we are working on beautifying many neighborhood areas courtesy of the Dashevsky Fund.

Upcoming events include the always popular Illumination Night which welcomes the beginning of summer.  This year's event takes place on Bronson Terrace on Saturday, June 17th, the night before Fathers' Day, The farmers' market starts again in May, and then in late fall we will have our popular tour of historic homes once again.

When I think of my 30 years of association with the FPCA, I am amazed at the number of people I have had the pleasure to work with.  Although we do not all agree on every issue, we do share the common goal of making our neighborhood a great place to live.

A thought occurred to me as I was writing this-something you may not know-- everyone who participates in our association is a volunteer-no one is paid.  We can always use an extra hand.  Our board meetings are open to everyone.  Except for July and August, they are held on the first Sunday of each month at 7PM in a member's home.

I encourage you to call me or any other board member listed in this newsletter to find out where a meeting is being held.  We would welcome your attendance. You are also welcome to attend any Association event.

 See you around our neighborhood!

..... Bob Triggs, President
