Update on Neighborhood Issues
June, 1999

BELMONT LAUNDRY LAW SUIT:
A serious effort to resolve the Belmont Laundry issue through negotiations that would have resulted in the sale of a small portion of land currently leased to Food Mart was not successful. The case went to trial in April. Arguments are complete and the decision now rests with Judge Peter Velis of the Superior Court. Whatever the decision, there will be new issues for the neighborhood which will require our ongoing commitment.

KEITH STREET:
Everyone should take note of the newly constructed two family home on the cornet. of Belmont and Keith Streets. Credit for this project goes to Concerned Citizens for Springfield., This is only one of many projects spearheaded by Concerned Citizens. Bravo!!

HOUSE TOUR:
Mark your calendar for Sunday December 5,1999 for the second annual Holiday 100 Year Old House Tour Last year's tour brought over 600 people into our neighborhood, showcasing the Forest Park area as a terrific place to live and raise a family The proceeds from this tour provided essential funds for the Belmont Ave. law suit The Spirit of Springfield once again will donate 500 tickets to Bright Nights to help promote the House Tour Houses & Volunteers are needed to make this a success.

SPRINGFIELD PRESERVATION TRUST TOUR:
On May 2, 1999, the SPT held a house tour of six houses on Bellevue Ave. Over 500 people enjoyed a beautiful Spring day and strolled the fabulous streetscape of the area. The historic features of the six houses were appreciated by all. It was a successful tour in every way. Many people from out of town learned what a treasure the houses of Springfield are and the SPT raised a large fund to promote more such events and support its other activities.
