Dear City Counselors,

I am writing this statement in support of your library committee's recommendation of the creation of a city library department. This department would do the following but not limited to:

-The library department would continue the regular library service.

-The library department would focus solely on library service with no other obligations and/or distractions

-This library department with a board of dedicated city residents would look for resources to enhance and sustain our libraries.

-The library department will work with leaders and city officials for alternative funding avenues.

Our city in this time of fiscal crisis needs to look for sound financial policies and procedures. This formation of the library department would ensure just that.
