1. Historic District Request for change by Bait Memorial Baptist Church, corner of Garfield St. and Forest Park Ave. This request is to be heard on August 6, 1998 at the regularly scheduled Historic commission meeting. Much discussion centered on the ability of the church to secure the financial resources to re-shingle the church rather than put vinyl shingles. Much discussion followed. Pat Triggs moved that the Civic Assn. Continue to oppose the vinyl shingling of the church while exploring whether there might be Preservation Trust and/or Historic Association grant money to assist the church. Paul Sears seconded the motion. Discussion followed. The vote was 10-3 in favor of opposing the vinyl siding.
2. Major issue of going forward with Crystal Ave. zone change challenge. Bill Malloy outlined the current situation regarding the financial constraints which the FPCA has. The current bank balance is approximately $10,000. The fee from our Attorney, Eileen Sorrentino is $4507, which includes a $585 filing fee in court. Lengthy discussion centered on strategy planning following decisions were made. A) Contact Mayor Albano and find out if he bas vetoed the voted zone chance. Pat Triggs is to call Mayor Albano on Wed. 7/28 and ask to meet with him ASAP.B) in answer to the question of what is the cap which the FPCA can pay, there was difficulty in arriving at a figure. C) Much discussion on possible fund raising projects. Pat Triggs suggested the photos from the Building Dept. showing all Springfield homes in the early part of the century, be copied and sold. Bob Triggs suggested renting the Ding Theater for a film fundraiser. WII Valliere suggested a fund raising letter be sent to all members. Larry Libow suggested personal follow-up. Bill Malloy to write the letter, followed by personal contact win possible. D) Motion made by Paul Sears that the FPCA go ahead with its suit ant Hint our liability fur legal fees to $10,000. Motion seconded and voted unanimously in favor. Paul suggested that Crystal Ave. residents be asked to commit financial support. Bob Triggs to contact Fred Noel and Crystal Ave. residents about this.
