Minutes from May 6, 2001 Meeting

 

Meeting was held at the home of Jane Hetzel, 47 Bellevue Avenue 

 

In attendance were the following:  Bob Triggs,  Maureen Posner, Shelia McElwaine, Don Evans, Ginny White, Bill Malloy, Belle Rita Novak, Liz Bransom, Paul Kingston and Sandra Collins.

 

Meeting was called to order at 7:10pm.

 

Motion made for the suspension of rules. Second.  Vote:  all in favor.

 

Minutes:  A motion was made to approve and accept the minutes. Second. Vote:  all in favor.

Treasurer’s report:  A motion to approve and accept the report.  Second.  Voted:  all in favor.  There have been 100 payments of dues processed thus far.  There has been approximately $500.00 donated to the unrestricted fund.  Anyone interested in utilizing money from that fund should contact Don Evans. 

Committee Reports:

  1. Community Improvement:  Concerned Citizens now employees a person to work on the graffiti issue in Forest Park.  There was an annual clean up day in April and it was a success.  15 people from the Sheriff’s Department assisted in the project.  Letters of thanks were received White Street School and Forest Park Middle for the clean up efforts.  The Farmer’s Market opened on May 1st.  There are approximately 17 vendors. 
  2. Education:  There is a library hours speak out scheduled prior to the City Council meeting on May 7th.  Scholarship applications for Illumination Night have been distributed to the local schools.  There was a discussion regarding recent articles in the newspaper regarding Rebecca Johnson loosing its middle school component, those students will be moving to Van Sickle and Rebecca Johnson will operate as a K-5 school in the upcoming academic year. 
  3. Historic:  No report. 
  4. Parks:  The Forest Park Zoo has a new director.  The proposed new changes will affect the in-house operations of the zoo.  The Forest Park Partnership took a ride on April 6th to explore ways to connect the “X” with the park in a more pedestrian friendly manner.  Access at the end of Cliftwood Avenue into the Park is being explored.  The pedestrian entrances would have minor labeling and inviting landscaping.  A motion was made to support the pedestrian way.  Seconded.  Voted.  Approved.  There was a request made to consider an entranceway on Somerset Street. 
  5. Program/Publicity:  Illumination Night will be held on Magnolia Terrace on June 16th.  The distribution list for flyers was discussed and changes were made. 
  6. Public Safety:  The Beat Management Team reports that the number B&Es into homes continues to rise.  Two more police officers and computers in the cruises have been successes that the Beat Team has acquired from the Department for the “H” sector.  One of the goals for the Team in the Fall is to begin targeting bad properties to make improvements and work with landlords.  The issue of painting crosswalks only once a year was discussed and Belle Rita will be following up with letter on this issue.   
  7. X Task Force:  The X Pub remains an issue for the “X”.  The Pub is going back to the license commission seeking a full liquor license.  They have stopped serving lunch.  Members are encouraged to write letters to the liquor commission voicing their concerns on the liquor license.  The owners of the “X” Pub recently purchased the entire building. 
  8. Zoning:  The zone change was approved for the neighborhood near Belle Rita.  The change was to residence A.  The woman seeking the license to operate a dog business near Touch of Garlic was also approved for one year with several stipulations. 

 

Old Business:

The Food Mart shuttle continues to operate for 4 days from 11:00am-4:00pm. 

 

New Business:

The vacant lot near Allen and White Street will become a Veterans Park through the Kids Around the Corner campaign.  A monument and flagpole will be placed there.  A motion was made for FPCA to donate $50.00 for flowers to be planted around the flagpole.  Seconded.  Voted.  Approved.  A motion was made for the FPCA to donate $350.00 to the Farmer’s Market.  Seconded.  Voted.  Approved.
