Minutes from January 7, 2001
Meeting
Meeting
was held at the home of Sandra Collins and Allen Agnitti-161 Longhill
Street.
In attendance were the following: Bob Triggs, Paul Kingston, Belle Rita Novak,
Maureen Posner, Jeremy Cole, Allen Agnitti, Bill Malloy, Pat Triggs, Shelia
McElwaine, Candice Gaumond (representative from Gail Candaras office), Jane
Hetzel, Liz Bransom, and Sandra Collins.
Meeting
was called to order at 7:07pm.
Motion
made for the suspension of rules. Second.
Vote: all in favor.
Minutes: A motion was made to approve and minutes with a correction in the
spelling of Shelia McElwaine’s name.

Treasurer’s
report: A motion to accept the
report. Second. Voted:

Committee
Reports:
- Community
Improvement: Regarding the
graffiti ordnance, a referral and removal process flow chart has been
constructed. The “X” Main Street
had a meeting regarding the Bing, a quote was provided for the basic
needs. The Saigon Café will be
renamed the “X” Pub. Waldbaums had
a meeting on December 7th, Belle Rita attended, and the next
meeting is scheduled for January 18th. They will begin partnering with the
Forest Park Middle School. A new
director of sales was hired. A
$500.00 grant was received from the Cultural Council for Illumination
night. Trinity Church had a sign
in the tree belt, Shelia and Bill were working on this issue and the sign
has since been removed. It was
suggested that the FPCA meet with the Church to develop a friendlier
relationship. Shelia discussed the
rail trail issue. There will be a
meeting on January 10th at Holy Cross. The East Forest Park Association and
the Rail Trail group will be meeting with the City Planning
Department. The trail is currently
in phase point 7 in a 12-point process.
Bill distributed an extensive handout regarding the Rail Trail.
- Education: There is nothing new to report on the
Forest Park Middle School situation.
The forum to be held in February will focus on the Middle School
plan. Bob received a letter from
the Mayor’s office seeking information on what the FPCA would like to see
for the library on an immediate basis.
After a lengthy discussed it was determined that the FPCA would
like to see the library opened during the academic year from 3-9
Monday-Thursday and 9-5 Saturday and Sunday. Long-term goals are for the library to be up to date on
technology and equipment, handicapped accessible and to accommodate all
the neighborhood residents.
- Historic: There is a house on Randolph Street
with a roof issue. Allen and Bill
will meet with the owner to discuss his options. There is also the issue that the Springfield Trust is facing
with a house on Chestnut Street that the Library and Museum Association
would like to raze. Allen and Bill
continue to meet with the Trust and will provide updates on this on-going
battle.
- Parks: No report submitted.
- Program/Publicity: 153 White Street is slated for
demolition. There was a discussion
regarding the home at 21 Forest Park Avenue.

- Public Safety: 140 Belmont Avenue has been identified
as a major gang activity area. On
Knox Street there has been a lot of drug activity. Allen provided an update on the
situation with the light at the corner of Longhill and Sumner Avenue. He continues to work with the Police
Department, and the Department of Public Works.
- X Task Force: No report.
- Zoning: No report.
Old
Business:
The
nominating committee presented a brief report and continues to work on the
slate of officers to be announced at the annual meeting. Pat Triggs wrote letters to the homeowners
that participated in the December house tour, thanking them for opening their
homes to the public.
New
Business:
The
dates and topics have been set for the four public forums to occur during this
year.
The
meeting adjourned at approximately 9:05 pm.
