Secretary's Report of minutes from the meeting

held on January 5, 2003

at the home of Maureen Posner, 43 Oxford Street

 

In attendance: Paul Sears, Shelia McElwaine, Bob and Pat Triggs, Don Evans, Jeremy Cole, Ralph Slate, Bill Malloy, Russ Seelig, Jane Hetzel, Belle Rita Novak, Allen Agnitti, Liz Bramsom, Maryann Mahoney and Sandra A. Collins.

 

The meeting was called to order at 7: 10pm.

 

Secretary's minutes-a motion was made for acceptance of minutes from the December meeting with one correction in the section of those in attendance, Maryann Mahoney was not listed; however, she was in attendance at the December meeting. The motion was seconded, voted on, all in favor.

 

The treasurer's report was distributed. A motion was made to accept the report, motion was seconded, voted on; all were in favor of accepting the report.

 

Committee reports:

1.      Community Improvements: No report.

2.      Education/Library: FPCA will begin distributing scholarship applications for high school students. There will be a meeting with Dr. Burke and Carol Fazio on January ill to discuss the Forest Park Middle School situation. There have been 19 trees cut at the library, including 2 dogwood trees that the FPCA gave to the library. Bob wrote a letter to Emily Bader expressing concern. A letter was distributed at the meeting foe members to sign regarding the removal of the trees.

3.      Historic-Chatham Court is seeking approval for replacement windows-this was approved. A resident on Washington Road is still seeking assistance with code enforcement. The City is continuing to question her on her porch railings.

4.      Parks-It was reported that the sidewalks on Dickinson are not being shoveled. This is Park property. Jane will be in contact with Pat Sullivan.

5.      Public Safety-Allen met with Sgt. Ambrose regarding the intersection of Sumner and Longhill. Sgt. Ambrose stated that he will assign 2 officers to monitor the intersection one time a month in the morning and the afternoon. Allen has continued to work on this issue as part of the Sumner Avenue SCDM team also.

6.      Membership-No report. There will be an inclusiveness group meeting on January 23rd.

7.      Zoning-Peter Garvey will be on a leave of absence from his position. .Concerned Citizens met with him to discuss code violations. FPCA feels it is at a standstill with DPW -it was felt that the FPCA needs to develop a plan to address code enforcement issues in the future.

8.      Forest Park Partnership-There was a meeting on December 2nd to follow up on the historic lights and to explore future possibilities. There are 11 lights remaining to be install on Dickinson towards the Longmeadow boarder. Four new signs will be installed at the entry points of the Forest Park Neighborhood. The Partnership will continue to work on a long-range traffic plan for Fort Pleasant Avenue.

 


Old Business­

The house tour proceeds were less this year than in the past. The approximate amount raised was $3,000.00.

Update on the Belmont Laundry suit-a hearing was held on December 5th The case was taken under advisement and a decision will likely be made in 8-12 months. Bill stressed the point that FPCA will probably lose the case.

 

New Business­

Representative for the Liquor Commission-FPCA has two members interested in the position, Jeremy Cole and Sharon Gazda. The vote will be on January 22nd.

Communication to Fran Gagnon-a letter was written by the F_CA and sent before Christmas. A copy was sent to the Mayor and the Planning Department. At the time of the January meeting there had not been any response.

Annual meeting plans-Allen is working on a political forum for the annual meeting. The date will be February 2nd, time 2-4pm, at the Forest Park Middle School.

Proposed slate of officers for the 2003-2004 year was distributed.

 

The meeting adjourned at 9: 15pm.
